Can you wear maternity clothes even though you are not (yet) pregnant or even trying to conceive? Absolutely yes!
There are no rules or regulations when it comes to wearing the clothes
you love and feel most comfortable in. And no, you’re not weird to wear clothes designed for a pregnant woman even if you’re not expecting. You can do what you want.
Maternity is just a clothing label, right?
No, not really. Maternity garments, whether it be a dress, top, pants or bra, are designed specifically for a ever-growing, changing body shape. They are designed to provide support where needed, stretch and breathe. The biggest difference between maternity clothes and plus-size or larger size clothing is the cut. Maternity tops and dresses are normally made longer in the front to go over the bump. If that doesn’t bother you or you can belt it so the hem is even, I don’t see how it could be a problem for you or anyone else.
Is it superstitious to wear maternity clothes if you are not (yet) pregnant?
Some people are quite spuerstictuous and consider wearing clothing designed for a pregnant woman, when you are in fact not pregnant nor TTC, a bad omen. For them it’s counting my chickens before they hatch but don’t let the thoughts of others put you off.
Maternity clothing offers many super comfortable benefits over regular clothes
- Maternity jeans have no fly, yes no zipper. You never have to worry about your fly being down or having the end of the zipper sticking out. Plus they usually have no buttons, a ridiculously comfortable waist band and are great for when you’ve had a rather large lunch.
- Maternity pants look good and can be dressed up or down as the occasion demands it; they are comfortable and there are lots of different styles, colours and shapes to suit individual choice.
- Maternity tops are made with longer lined hems which are great for apple-shaped women or those with a little tummy (naturally) that need the extra length
- Maternity clothing are also made to breathe and keep the body cool – natural cottons and fabrics that don’t cause you to sweat
Maternity clothes are awesome and comfy. Nobody’s going to read your clothing tags or anything (unless they are super funny like these ones), so it’s not like they’ll ever know. You can wear whatever clothes you want. If you find a wrap dress, nursing top or pair of skinny (maternity) jeans and they fit you like you’d expect them to, go for it!
