Is maternity underwear a necessity or a waste of money?  Maternity underwear is not a necessity and no, you do not need to buy it.

By design, maternity underwear is usually extra-stretchy and either low-cut, to fit underneath a belly, or high-cut, to fit over it.

Non maternity underwear you can look out for:

  • Regular comfortable low cut undies
  • Make sure that they have plenty of stretch
  • Be prepared to buy some in larger sizes as your belly grows

If you prefer an over the belly pair, these breathable, mesh and seamless maternity underwear are perfect for everyday wear, super comfortable and will give you added support.

Postpartum maternity underwear

After giving birth, you may decide that you want an undergarment that will give you support even if you chose to wear regular non-maternity underwear throughout your entire pregnancy.  A pair of post panty recovery underwear will help

  • slim your full torso
  • support your abdominal muscles
  • help speed recovery

With a focus on compression for your tummy, these are a great idea and worth looking into.

If you have had a c-section however you’ll need what’s called c-panty.  These compression underwear help

  • support around a c-section incision
  • reduces swelling
  • decreases pain

They also have an inbuilt medical grade silicone panel which covers the incision, speeds healing and reduces scars appearance.

These are a must!  If you have had a c-section I highly recommend them even if you chose not to wear maternity underwear throughout your pregnancy.

Did you wear maternity underwear or did you feel that regular undies did the job perfectly?
