Whether you’ve purchased some clothes second hand, they’re a gift from a well cigarette-smell-baby-clothesmeaning relative or simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, sometimes baby clothes end up smelling bad.

So if you have baby clothes that smell like cigarettes, here are some ways you can help get the smell out:

  • Wash the clothes with baking soda.
  • Add vinegar to your washing load.
  • Air the clothes outside in direct sunlight.
  • If smells still don’t come out, try a product like febreeze (both when damp and dry).

If the baby clothes have any nicotine stains on them, dab patches with vinegar and baking soda, or dabs of lemon juice to remove them.

If you’re still not comfortable using the clothes, resell them, regift them or use them as rags.

If you’re planning on buying second hand baby clothes, especially online, always ask if the clothing is from a smoke and pet free home.
